Pastor Zachary E. Carey, Sr. is the Senior Pastor of True Vine Ministries of West Oakland and a courageous community leader, organizer and advocate. As a transformative leader, he energizes our city and encourages people to live their best life. Born and raised in Oakland, Pastor Zack is invested in Oakland and understands the impact the church can make in the world. For over three decades, Pastor Zack has fought, with unwavering passion and commitment, to eradicate the violence, drug abuse, unemployment and under-education that plague the city of Oakland and its surrounding communities.
Pastor Zack began his ministry career walking and teaching in West Oakland neighborhoods. A true “drum major for justice”, he has partnered with national leaders to effect change. In 2010, as a response to the rising rates of homicide in Oakland and in direct response to the murder of his wife’s cousin, Pastor Zack founded Soldiers Against Violence Everywhere or S.A.V.E. He also serves as President of Impact Oakland Now (ION): a non-denominational, non-profit coalition of churches serving Oakland and the greater East Bay, serving and working directly with residents at the center of violence and poverty in Oakland and the East Bay community.
A man of honor, Pastor Zack has received numerous awards and honors, including the “2013 Pastor of the Year” award by the Oakland NAACP, the KFAX Radio “Phillip Award” for outstanding leadership, and the “Humanitarian of the Year” award by the East Bay Business Council. Pastor Zack and his wife, Dr. Donna C. Carey, have a daughter, Trinity, and a son, Zachary, Jr.
