Pastoral Leadership

Pastor Zachary Carey

Co-Pastor Nathalio Gray, Sr.
Pastor Nathalio Gray was raised in both Rialto and San Bernardino, CA. He graduated from Rialto High School before relocating to Atlanta, GA to attend Morehouse College, where he served as President of the African American Studies club and inaugural member of the African American Studies Honor Society, before receiving his Bachelor of Arts Degree in African American Studies.

In 2001 Pastor Gray relocated to the Bay Area to work at The Branson School in Marin County, nurturing his gift of youth development. During his twenty plus year tenure, he has held a multitude of positions, currently serving as the Assistant Head of School, Director of Admissions, and his newest title, Branson Parent. Passionate to provide access and opportunity, Pastor Gray diligently works to ensure families from underserved communities are informed of independent school options and process. His work has been recognized with a Power 40 Leadership Award for. “phenomenal commitment to community and the development of the future” by Allen Temple Baptist Church, as well as a Vanguard Achievement Award, “for a lifetime commitment to the education, development and social well-being of Young Black Men.”

In 2002 Pastor Gray joined True Vine Ministries (TVM) in Oakland, CA, under the leadership of Pastor Zacharey E. Carey. Pastor Gray has served the Lord in a variety of ways, including (but not limited to) Greeter, Youth Ministry Director, Bible Study Teacher, Youth Pastor and Street Witnessing. In 2006 Pastor Gray accepted his call to ministry and was licensed to preach. Pastor Gray had a strong desire to better equip himself for the work to which God was calling him, so he attended American Baptist Seminary of the West (ABSW) in Berkeley, CA. While at ABSW, Pastor Gray received the 2011 L. Doward McBain Preaching Prize for Outstanding Senior Sermon. Combining life experiences growing up in a tough neighborhood, with ABSW biblical studies, and lessons learned at True Vine Ministries, a solid foundation has been set for Pastor Gray to do God’s work. Rooted in sharing God’s word with ALL people, especially the youth, Pastor Gray creatively preaches the importance of trusting God in all circumstances.

Pastor Gray is not hard to find – He now serves as Co-Pastor at TVM, just look to the streets of Oakland (or online) on Saturday mornings, and you can find him with the witnessing team or with S.A.V.E Oakland (Soldiers Against Violence Everywhere), Saying Something and Doing Something about gun violence.

Above any educational/professional pursuits or achievements, Pastor Gray is most proud of being a husband and a father. In 2005 he married his Spelman College sweetheart, Stevie Gray, and they have two sons, Nathalio Jr. and Niles. In 2011, their daughter Nyla returned to be with the Lord. Although life has not been easy, Pastor Gray declares, “because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands” (Psalms 63:3-4).
